A 76-year-old German man accidentally exploded his car after trying to defrost it. Instead of just turning on the engine and letting the car heat up, the man put a heater under the car's hood. The man left the heater next to the frozen windscreen washer tank and returned indoors; shortly after he heard two explosions and returned outside to see his car ablaze. The man then contacted fire services who were able to stop the blaze before it spread to the house. Total damages, including some charring on the building, is estimated at $56,240.

An Italian man who argued with his son over Sony PlayStaion tactics is recovering in hospital after the teenager stabbed him in the neck with a 15-inch kitchen knife. The dispute began when the 46-year-old Italian man gave his 16-year-old son some pointers on how to play the soccer game FIFA 2009. They argued, and the father turned off the television in response to the son's behaviour. The 16-year-old then ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed his father in the neck. He washed the knife off in the sink and went to his bedroom until the police came and took him away. The boy had received FIFA 2009 a few days earlier as a birthday present. His parents bought him the game specifically because of its non-violent nature.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Argentine President Christina Fernandez has recently promoted pork as a good aphrodisiac, claiming that it is even more helpful in stimulating sexual desire than the popular drug Viagra. She claimed to have personally experienced its benefits. Her comments were made at a conference announcing subsidies for the Argentine pork industry. Argentina is the world-leader in the consumption of red meat and few Argentineans are willing to replace beef with other meats. The Argentine government is trying to keep the price of pork low despite inflation in the country.
