Vic blames it on the weather

Three weeks ago, the Vic Flag Football (Men's Division II) team finished off the regular season with a 3-2 record. This placed the team tied for third in the standings, thus securing one of the four playoff spots.
On November 6, at 10:30 in the morning, the Vic team gathered on the soaking wet field at the back campus, looking to redeem itself in a postseason matchup against SMC. Coming into the playoffs, SMC held the league's best regular season record (4-1) and had dealt Vic a crushing defeat just a week earlier.
Although the team suffered a humbling 32-13 loss, we knew that this time around, we would have to play very tight defense and get the offense rolling earlier to avoid playing from behind.
The field conditions during the game were terrible. Huge mud puddles were everywhere from the overnight rain, making it difficult to generate any consistent offense. As a result, the game was dominated by big defensive plays on both teams as many passes were batted down or intercepted. Both offenses showed flashes but generally struggled most of the game and failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities inside the red zone.
Vic scored first on a touchdown pass from Chris Glover to Steve Kreuger to take the lead. SMC then orchestrated its own drive into the endzone to tie the game. Neither team scored after that, except on a punt into the endzone by SMC, which by CFL rules is worth one point.
In the final minutes of the game, down 7-6, with possession of the ball and two plays left, Vic could not find the endzone. Our hopes of advancing to the finals were erased and as we walked off the field, we shook hands with the other team, wishing them the best of luck.
I'd like to thank everyone who showed up to the game and for those who couldn't make it, thanks for helping us get to the playoffs. Although we did not win the game, we fought to the last second, losing only by only a single point. We definitely redeemed ourselves from the previous loss by showing SMC what we were truly capable of.
It's been a pleasure to play with all of you and as our season finally comes to an end, all I can say is that I hope to see everyone again (and new players) next season! Let's play some more Vic Flag Football!
